A Warm Blanket Wrap

I didn't mean to start a blog.... but after two years of crocheting I came up with a pattern (admittedly a very simple pattern) which I wanted to share on a craft site.  The problem was that I couldn't share it unless I could list where it had been first published, so here I am!  If this goes well, I may share other patterns here.  Let's see how well this goes!

So, my first pattern is a blanket wrap.  I wanted something I could wrap up in at home when I was chilly, but could also wear out as well.  I also have fallen in love with the Lion Brand Scarfie yarn, because it is so soft and warm, and because it is self-striping.

I chose the black & cream colorway so that I could wear it with anything, though I was very tempted to use the blue one.  Maybe that will be my next wrap!  I also chose to do a moss stitch, to make the wrap thick and warm.  I added fringe for interest, and so that it didn't just look like a blanket!  I also added three buttons along one side so that it wouldn't slip off my shoulders.  So, the wrap can be worn just draped over your shoulders, or buttoned at the front, or shifted sideways so that the buttons are along your arm and the wrap comes to a point in front.  I've worn it all three ways and love it!

So, here's the pattern for my wrap; hope someone else can enjoy it too!

Lori's Blanket Wrap

Stitches:

Ch - chain
SC - single crochet
DC - double crochet
sk - skip

Gauge not critical.  Use hook size recommended for the yarn being used.  I used Lion Brand Scarfie with a 6.5mm hook.

Pattern:

Chain an odd number for desired width.

Row 1: 1 SC in second chain from hook,* 1 DC in next chain, 1 SC in the next chain* Repeat across the row.  Ch 1. Turn.

Row 2: Skip 1st stitch, *1 SC and 1 DC in next stitch, skip 1 stitch* repeat across the row. When you have 2 stitches left skip 1 and 1sc and 1dc in the last stitch. Ch 1. Turn.

Rows 3-end: Repeat row 2 until desired length is reached (I stopped at 60”).

DO NOT FASTEN OFF.  DO NOT TURN.  Do a crab stitch border starting on this short end, around three sides of the wrap, ending on the other short side.  (Crab stitch - Insert the hook into the 2nd to the last stitch completed (working in the backwards direction from usual), from the front to the back.  Yarn over, and pull through the stitch.  Yarn over again, and pull through both loops on the hook.  Repeat with the next stitch to the right until you get to the end.)  Ch 1. Turn.

SC evenly along the remaining long side of the wrap.  Ch 1. Turn.  Repeat this row twice, for a total of three SC rows.  Fasten off.  Weave in ends.  This is the edge for the buttons.  (I just found buttons that would fit through the SC holes, but if you want bigger buttons, you can put in button holes on this edge as well.)

Button placement – first button sewn on 11” down from the center of the wrap, additional buttons sewn on at 3” intervals.  (I used three buttons on my wrap.)

Attach fringe to remaining three sides of wrap.  (I added 6” fringe, attached every two inches.)
